Hi Janet, I took a class with you at the buttons and bead show in Phoenix, Arizona. I have made some great thing from the techiques you had shown us. We are still struggling trying to get the perfect shapes and shine just like the bead on the picture. I bought my daughter and I a bead to reminder us of your class and to bring us insperation to perfect our techniques so that our work can also resemble glass. You do such a great job buffing. Can you please give me some advice on how to keep each bead the same size and to get the same result as the picture above. Thank You Sandra Arizona
Nice to hear from you. To get each bead the same size I roll the base color I am using for the bead into a log or roll and use a ruler to measure or a Kato “Marxit”, and with my X-Acto knife cut segments the same size. Then I add the thin slices of the design cane I’ve made and roll in my hands to smooth. After they are baked and cooled, I sand them with 320, 400, 600 and 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and buff them for the final shine with the muslin wheel on my buffing machine. Part of it is just time and practice. Keep enjoying the clay.
